Guacamole Daniel Fast Recipe

Hello blog readers! When I first started posting recipes, I thought it would be a one-time thing. I know a lot of people and church groups started 2016 doing a spiritual fast. Each day, my heart leans toward sharing these recipes that can be eaten on a Daniel fast.

I’m a firm believer in the power of fasting. I’ve seen God move in ways that I know are a result of my heartfelt fasting. Knowing what you can eat helps to mentally prepare you for the fast. And, knowing that you can eat delicious foods might help someone who’s on the fence about giving it a try. Our fasting shouldn’t be about “What am I going to eat today???” Your time should be spent meditating on spiritual food! But when it’s time to have a meal, I want you to know there are some tasty meals that take very little time to make that you can enjoy. They’re so delicious that you’ll thank God for making these wonderful foods with every bite.

Today, I have a yummy guacamole recipe for you. It’s a little spicy (not too much).. but if you like it mild, just leave out the pepper! It helps if you have a food processor, but if not, you can still make it — you’ll just have to manually dice your ingredients!

Here’s what you need:

3 avocados
1 lime juiced
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 small onion, diced
1/2 jalapeno pepper, seeded
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
2 tablespoons minced or chopped garlic
**optional 2 tomatoes, seeded and diced



Scoop all of the avocado into a large bowl.
Add lime juice,  salt, cumin, and cayenne.
Mash with a potato masher or a fork.
Set aside.
Put  onions, jalapeno, cilantro, and garlic into food processor.
Blend until finely minced.
Fold mixture into your avocado bowl.
**Optional – fold tomatoes into mixture too.


This tastes great on top of a baked potato, or with veggies like lettuce wedges, cucumber slices, sweet peppers, and carrots. You can put it on top of brown rice or quinoa too. Try grapefruit, with side of guacamole for breakfast! The flavors will seep in overnight in the fridge.

As you move forward, fasting to God, remember one of Paul’s prayers for the children of God.


Ephesians 3:14-19  For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Paul is one of my favorite writers of the Bible. He understood what Christ did for us better than the disciples who walked with Jesus! That’s because he had teaching through power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told his disciples that if he didn’t go, the Helper wouldn’t come.

John 16:7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

The same powerful Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead can strengthen your inner spirit so that Christ can dwell in your hearts through faith!

I pray for a more intimate relationship with Jesus and His Father for each of us.

PS – I found a very cool app that reads the bible to you. It’s great to listen to after you read a passage to really meditate on it. I play it in the car too. It’s the Redemption app. There are lots of Redemption Church apps. The one I use is pictured below:


Just click on the Bible tab. It pulls up passages for each day, or you can choose which chapters you want to read or listen to.
